European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has mandated the regulatory reporting by all companies with securities listed on EU regulated markets in ESEF format which is the new standard for digital financial reporting by companies admitted to trading on EU and UK regulated markets. The issuers are required to submit annual financial reports (AFR) in XHTML (eXtensible HyperText Markup Language) format for reporting periods starting on or after 1 January 2020. Where the issuer prepares IFRS consolidated financial statements, it shall mark up these IFRS consolidated financial statements using the XBRL mark-up language.
